Why Steam Treatments Work Wonders for Hair

Have you been hearing all the buzz about head spas and hair steaming? Steam treatments aren't just for skin anymore; they're incredibly beneficial for your hair as well. Our texture expert, Lydia, shares her recommendations and insights on hair steaming and why you should incorporate it into your routine.

First, let’s discuss the different levels of hair porosity. Hair porosity refers to your hair’s ability to absorb and retain moisture. There are three levels:

Low Porosity: Hair that doesn't readily absorb water and treatments. If your hair takes a long time to wet and dry, and products sit on the surface instead of being absorbed, you likely have low porosity hair.

Medium Porosity: Hair that absorbs and retains moisture well. It’s generally healthy and manageable.

High Porosity: Hair that quickly absorbs moisture but also loses it just as fast. It can be due to damage or genetics, making it prone to frizz and dryness.

Lydia explains that steam treatments are especially beneficial for low porosity hair. Since low porosity hair doesn't easily absorb moisture, steam helps by opening the cuticle, allowing treatments to penetrate deeply. This is crucial for making hair care treatments more effective.

Hair steaming is beneficial for all hair types but is particularly advantageous for curly and coily textures. It’s also useful for:

  1. Stubborn, resistant hair that doesn't retain moisture well.

  2. Dry, brittle hair textures, allowing deep conditioners to penetrate further.

  3. The steam opens up the hair cuticle, allowing extra penetration of moisture and nutrients, which helps nourish, detangle and revitalize dry or resistant hair.

For best results, hair steaming is recommended for 10-30 minutes, but do not exceed 30 minutes. Pair the treatment with Innersense Hairbath and your favorite styling products. It’s especially effective for low porosity hair. Looking for a great follow-up routine with healthy, organic hair care? Lydia recommends Innersense Organic to help your curls thrive.
